A tax reform plan could provide more money for South Carolina tourism promotion, at the expense of local festivals and arts groups.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Tuesday the South Carolina Tax Realignment Commission is considering taking state accommodation taxes from local governments and giving it to tourism promotion groups and state parks.
Local governments now use some of that money for local groups and events.
The plan also would give the state more control over local hospitality taxes.
Supporters of the plan say other states spend more money on tourism marketing.
