Minister Kumara Welgama has said that plans are afoot to increase the revenue of the SLTB. This will be done by securing 500 buses on lease. The Minister said that the commitment of all is required to build the state transport service.
He pointed out that Depot Superintendents have much responsibility as for every five buses taken on lease, 500 thousand rupees had to be paid for the lease. Depot Superintendents have to be present at the depots at 5.00 a.m., before all the buses leave. They can thereafter return home for breakfast before returning. He said such a programme has to be launched to uplift the SLTB.
The Minister was speaking at a workshop organised for the Ticket checkers of the Stte Transport Service. The workshop was arranged to increase the efficiency of these officials. The Minister pointed out how the income of SLTB has increased by enhancing efficiency among these officials.
