The Galle City is to get a fully fledged bus-stand. The expenditure to be incurred will be 261 million rupees.
The original bus stand in the City was devastated by the Tsunami. The temporary bus stand which replaced the ravaged bus stand lacks space. It was at the Coordinating meeting of the Galle District recently chaired by Minister Basil Rajapaksa that attention was directed to building a new bus stand with all modern facilities.
Accordingly, the demolition of the old bus stand commenced today. Many Parliamentarians were present. Galle Mayor Methsiri Silva said their intention was to launch construction before the end of this year and complete the work within three months,.
The proposed two-storied building will house a shopping complex. The Southern Provincial Passenger Transport Authority said that temporary passenger shelters will be built to overcome the difficulties encountered by commuters. The Authority said that any problems confronted by the commuters can be directed to contact number 0912 234 237.
