Three new meet records set up

Three new meet records were set up on the opening day of the 41st Junior Tarbat Athletic Championship organized by the Sri Lanka Athletic Association and sponsored by Milo which began at the Bernard Aluwihare Stadium in Matale yesterday. The meet will be continued today at 8.00 a.m. Over 60 events mostly heats were worked off yesterday. The final event for the day was worked off around 6.30 p.m. and this was in semi darkness. The first record which fell was in the Under-14 Boys Discus Throw in which Mahinda Madhushan of Taldeka Kanishta Vidyalaya, Wennappuwa set a new mark of 36.32 metres which lowered the previous record of 29.17 metres held by M H S D Tissera of St Benedict’s College, Kotahena in 2008. The second record which fell was in the Under-15 Girls High Jump where K G Thanuja Hemamali of Mahasen National School, Nikaweratiya registered a height of 1.65 metres to better the previous record of 1.56 metres held by Ishani Edirisinghe of Rangiri Dambulla National School, Dambulla also in 2008.   Read more:www.dailynews.lk/2010/09/15/spo01.asp
