The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission has submitted a report to President Rajapaksa.
Members of the Commission who met the President made several submissions to him. The report contains several proposals for the resolution of administrative problems of the people where the conflict prevailed. Among the immediate measures suggested was ensuring facilities to members of the public to use their own language with official transactions with Government departments, especially the ability to make statements to the Police in one’s own language. The Commission has so far held 14 public sittings in Colombo and six in Vavuniya. It is planned to hold public sessions in Kilinochchi for three days beginning from tomorrow.
