Columbia City Council members are considering taking legal action to stop the construction of a cell phone tower at Trenholm Road and Beltline Boulevard.
The city's Board of Zoning Appeals granted the cell phone tower company, Optima Towers, a special zoning exception to build the tower, which will be disguised as a pine tree.
But several neighborhood leaders, including Wally Allen of McGregor Drive, are upset because they said they were not notified of the tower's construction.
The zoning board did post a sign on the property and published a notice in a local newspaper, but residents said they did not see them. Councilwoman Leona Plaugh, who represents the area, also said she did not see the notices.
While City Council members appoint members of the Board of Zoning Appeals, the board's decisions must be appealed to circuit court, not City Council.
