Development work in the Mullaitivu District is being accelerated.
The entire Mullaitivu area was ravaged due to LTTE terrorism. The terrorists destroyed all infrastructure including roads. However, with the elimination of terrorism, the government adopted measures to accelerate development by removing landmines and booby-traps. An initial discussion on the development programmes was held at the Mullaitivu District Secretariat. Deputy Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Parliamentarians Namal Rajapaksa, Uditha Lokubandara and Sri Ranga and Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri attended this meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Namal Rajapaksa emphasized to the officials the need for the immediate provision of roofing sheets, seed paddy and fishing gear among others to the resettled civilians. He issued instructions to the officials to immediately reopen all schools in the area.
