The food supplied to patients in Government hospitals will be subject to a thorough examination.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena who paid a sudden visit to the kitchen of the Colombo National Hospital inspected the manner in which the food was prepared. He undertook this visit according to a complaint received by him. The annual expenditure incurred by the government on the provision of food to warded patients is 830 million rupees. The Minister said he had received complaints that certain hospitals were providing sub-standard food to the patients. The hygienic conditions of the hospital were also examined by the Minister. He gave instructions to the officials to provide him with an immediate detailed report on the strategy of providing food to patients.
