Fire damaged a large apartment complex in the Midlands this morning, displacing occupants from at least 12 units.
The Richland County Fire Marshal's office is investigating the blaze at the Lexington Station Apartments on Longcreek Drive, near Broad River Road and Interstate 20.
A third-floor tenant reported trying to douse a fire started from a candle on a third-floor balcony, acting fire chief Aubrey Jenkins said.
When firefighters arrived around 9:30 a.m., smoke and fire were showing through the building's roof.
While the building contained 24 units, half were separated by a firewall and received little, if any, damage.
