UNP parliamentarian John Amaratunga today (16) said that he has accepted an invitation extended by the External Affairs Ministry to participate in the UN General Assembly in New York next week as a member of the Sri Lankan delegation.
When contacted by The Sunday Leader Amaratunga said that although he had accepted the invitation, he was not planning on crossing over to the government.
“They are two different issues,” he said.
Responding to a question on whether he would join the government, Amaratunga said he would not.
However, he said he did not know when he would be leaving for New York. “I guess it would be within the next two days,” he said.
When asked if the party has been informed of his decision to accept the External Affairs Ministry invitation, Amaratunga said he had already informed the party.
