Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has revealed that the new Independent Commissions will be established in January.
He told the weekly Cabinet news briefing that the Parliamentary Council that replaced the former Constitutional Council under the recently approved 18th amendment to the Constitution will be in place in January. As a result all the independent commissions will be activated by the first week of January. The Cabinet spokesman opined that all seven Independent Commissions will be duly appointed by the Council in January and officials will be able lodge their complaints and air their grievances after a lapse of several years.
Minister Rambukwella refuted allegations made against the Government that a ban has been imposed on the International Economist Magazine. He told the media that the Magazine has not been impounded in Sri Lanka and it is available in the market.
