A $10 million federal stimulus grant is being used to ease flooding on U.S. 17 in Charleston.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the money will be used for work on the Crosstown Expressway - the route U.S. 17 follows across the Charleston peninsula. The road was built on filled-in creeks and often floods in heavy rains.
Mayor Joe Riley says the work and a city drainage project should ease any flooding on the road, which is the main north-south route along the South Carolina coast.
