South Carolina is getting $11 million under an agreement with Pfizer Inc. over the company's illegal sales tactics.
State Attorney General Henry McMaster's office said on Friday the pharmaceutical giant will also give South Carolina more than $1.5 million in medications for use in free clinics.
Pfizer confirmed the agreement, which was reached Thursday.
Federal prosecutors in September hit Pfizer with a record-breaking $2.3 billion in fines for illegal drug promotions that plied doctors with free golf, massages, and resort junkets.
The agreement with the company covers promotions for the painkiller Bextra and Geodon, a schizophrenia medicine.
