As Sanford prepares to leave office in January, two state Cabinet agencies that report to the two-term governor anticipate running budget deficits, not permitted under state law.
That has one key GOP lawmaker fuming that Sanford is trying to quietly sweep some of the state’s financial problems under the rug so that he can exit with his budget-hawk reputation intact.
