Enjoining order prevents disciplinary probe into UNP MPs

Sep 17, 2010 1:36:09 PM - itnnews.lk

The Colombo District Court has issued an enjoining order barring the UNP from expelling Parliamentarians Lakshman Seneviratne and Earl Gunasekara from the party.

The Court issued this order after considering a petition filed by the two MPs. They said that it is illegal for the party to expel them for supporting the Government in adopting the 18th Constitutional Amendment, without holding a proper inquiry. Also these Parliamentarians called for the issue of another order preventing any future action based on the undated letters of resignation handed over by them to the party leadership. According to the court ruling, this enjoining order is valid for 14 days. It has been issued to 74 members of the UNP Working Committee, including General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.
