Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that Sri Lanka has achieved her highest economic growth rate, winning the economic war.
Based on latest statistics issued by the Department of Census and Statistics, Sri Lanka recorded a growth rate of 8.5 percent during the first quarter of this year. This is the highest ever quarterly growth recorded since the Central Bank and the Department of Census and Statistics began estimating quarterly growth rates. Minister Basil Rajapaksa commenting on this outstanding achievement said this signifies that the country’s economy is growing at a very rapid pace. He attributed this great achievement to the outstanding efforts and timely policies made by the Government. He said they were now winning the economic war. he three major sectors of the economy namely agriculture, industry and services recorded increased growth rates during the second quarter, which resulted in the recent growth rate of 8.5 percent of the GDP. The significant contribution of all three sectors in the economy is highly noteworthy. The growth rate is due to further surge with the North and East producing at full capacity. The aim of the President is that the country should reach the 4000 US Dollar per capita income range and Minister Rajapaksa was confident that this target could be achieed soon.
