A group which had committed a fraud promising jobs in Cyprus has been arrested.
The Foreign Employment Bureau said that the sum defrauded by the 10 member group is more than 7.5 million rupees. Four suspects were nabbed during a raid carried out by the Special Monitoring Unit of the Bureau. They were produced before the Maligakanda Courts. The Magistrate remanded until the 30th of this month. They had committed the fraud by operating a Foreign Employment Agency in Maradana. The Metropolitan permit of the Agency had been annulled. The Bureau said that funds had been collected from the applicants under the pretext of granting immediate jobs. Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau Kingsley Ranawaka said they had received complaints from 107 persons from various parts of the country with regard to the fraud. The Chairman said that operations are in place to nab the mastermind and other suspects.
