Three Police teams are probing the blast which happened at the Karadiyanaru Police Station precincts yesterday.
In addition to the Police teams, Government Analysts have also left Colombo to the location to conduct comprehensive inquiries. DIG Thilak Wijegunawardena said that a CID team and two more Police teams have been deployed for the conduct of the probe. The Police inquiries are being carried out under the guidance of SSP I.M. Karunaratne. 25 bodies of persons killed when three containers of dynamite exploded yesterday have been recovered. The containers were parked at the Police premises. A Police officer succumbed to injuries at the Batticaloa Hospital last night. Our reporters said that bodies of 11 Police officers have been handed over to relatives after the conduct of autopsies. 19 Police Officers and eight civilians injured in the incident are receiving treatment at the Batticaloa hospital. The Prime Minister visited the hospital last night to inquire into their wellbeing. The Prime Minister told them that the Government had already planned an immediate relief programme on the instructions of the President.
In the meantime, Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan and Parliamentarian Sanath Jayasuriya visited Batticaloa this afternoon and inquired into the condition of the injured. They also gifted goods to them.
The clearance of the rubble of the devastated Karadiyanaru Police Station is still being continued. The gathering of documents of the Police Station is in progress with the support of the STF. The activities of the Karadiyanaru Police station have been vested with the Aithamalai Police Station. IGP Mahinda Balasuriya plans to re-establish the Karadiyanaru Police Station at a suitable location as soon as possible.
