Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said that Sri Lanka’s literacy has further increased as a result of the development that has taken place in the education sector in the recent past.
The Minister said that authors and writers had a major role to play to produce books to suit the minds of the children. He pointed out that the Government expected the private sector to produce reasonable quality and competitive books. He added that the Government was willing to extend assistance to them in this respect.
The Minister participated in yesterday’s opening ceremony of the 12th Colombo International Book Exhibition and Fair organized at the BMICH. Many scholars, writers and artistes were present on the occasion. The Book Fair will continue at the BMICH until the 26th of month According to the organizers, there are 420 stalls of local and foreign books
