The Batticaloa District observed a day of mourning for those who lost their lives in the blast that occurred at the Karadiyanaru Police Station.
Our correspondent said that white flags were hoisted in the Batticaloa town as a mark of respect to the Police Officers and civilians who lost their lives in this tragic incident. Shops within the City and its suburbs had put their shutters down. In the meantime the CID and special police teams are carrying out a probe into the explosion.
Meanwhile 16 Police officers who sustained injuries have been transferred to Colombo for treatment. 26 people have lost their live due to the explosion of dynamite containers placed in the Police premises. Measures have been taken to hand over their bodies to their families.
