Operations are being launched to arrest those who are engaged in begging in railway stations. Commercial Superintendent of Railways Wijaya Samarasinghe said that the programme is being implemented for the convenience of commuters.
He said that begging in trains has been banned from last June. Begging is prohibited under the Railways Ordinance although the law was enforced last June. The aim of the effort is to provide convenience and security for the commuters and the railway employees. He said that the beggars who may be involved in unscrupulous activities will be removed from railway stations.
