Dr. James Hellams loves his job.
"I don't know that anyone has been able to do what they love as long as I have and enjoyed it as much as I have," he said.
Doc Hellams has been treating people for five decades. At 80, he's still the doctor of Pendleton. Not the only doctor around. But he's the one whom many of these townspeople have been coming to for years. To most here, he's simply, "Doc."
To say thanks, the Pendleton Town Council will issue a proclamation to Hellams Tuesday, at their regular meeting.
There are people here who've come to Hellams for several generations - for two, three or five branches of their family trees. Take Carol Burdette.
