Water customers between 306-370 Wycombe Road in Lexington County and any others in the surrounding area who have lost water or water pressure are asked to boil their water before drinking or cooking with it, officials with the city of Columbias water division announced Monday.
It was not clear late Monday afternoon how long the advisory would continue.
Boiling should be vigorous and continue for at least one minute, according to city and state health officials. Also, any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
City employees were working to repair a break in a 4-inch water main, which can allow bacteria to collect.
Customers can call the city of Columbia Water Works, (803) 733-8336 or (803) 781-2181, about the advisory.
