A South Carolina man once described as a the nation's No. 2 breeder of fighting pit bulls has been released from prison.
Corrections Department spokesman Josh Gelinas said Monday that 63-year-old David Ray Tant was released from prison Thursday.
Parole officials voted 5-2 earlier this month in favor of paroling Tant. He had served six years of a 30-year sentence.
Tant pleaded guilty to several dog breeding charges after investigators removed dozens of pit bulls, cattle prods and weapons from his Charleston County compound. A surveyor near Tant's property triggered a booby trap that authorities said had been set to keep intruders away.
As part of his parole, Tant won't be allowed to have any connection with dog ownership or training.
