UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has said that poverty can be alleviated by meeting the millennium development goals.
He was confident that significant progress can be achieved in 2015. The Secretary General expressed this view at the inauguration of the 65th Session of the General Assembly. He stressed that the assistance at the Head of State level is required to achieve the millennium development goals. The Millennium development goals are based on 8 points that include poverty alleviation and improvement of health.
The Secretary General noted that the French president Nicolas Sarkozy has pointed out the importance of setting up a fund for this purpose. France will contribute towards decreasing the incidence of Malaria and Tuberculosis by 20 percent during the next three years.
