The Attorney General has raised objections to the special appeals petition put forward by Sarath Fonseka challenging the legality of the second Court Martial. He called on the Supreme Court to reject the petition.
Deputy Solicitor General Sanjeeva Rajaratnam appearing on behalf of the Attorney General made this intimation to Courts when the petition was taken up today. The three-Judge bench headed by the Chief Justice decided that there was no sufficient time to consider the petition today. As such, it was adjourned until the 3rd of December. The Appeals Court had earlier rejected a petition submitted by Mr. Fonseka calling for the abolition of the second Court Martial. This special appeals petition had been filed in the Supreme Court calling for an order to be issued to reconsider the petition saying that it was illegal.
