Today is the Binara Full Moon Poya Day which is also important for both the Buddha Sasana as well as the literary world.
According to Buddhist philosophy this Poya marks the commencement of a period where Buddhist monks restrict themselves to temples and engage in meditation and travel along their own path towards enlightenment. The most significant event that occurred on this Religious Day was the establishment of the Bhikkuni order on the initiative of Maha Prajapathi Gothami. According to the history of Buddhism, Maha Prajapathi Gothami, the sister of the queen Mahamaya, was the first Bhikkhuni in the Buddha Sasana.
Meanwhile, the Poya “Savanak Res” Programme today is being telecast live from the Raja Maha Vihare in Kotte. Among the highlights are sil campaigns, dhamma sermons and medication campaigns.
