Socastee HS students face metal detectors, searches

Students at Socastee High School will be met by metal detectors as they enter the school today.
The school will open an hour later, the school district announced late Tuesday, and Teal Britton, spokeswoman for Horry County Schools, said students and parents should expect a few delays. She said student property will be searched only by trained school personnel and that students will be searched by officials of their same gender.
Students should be aware that any clothing, gadgets or accessories that contain metal are likely to prolong a search, Britton said. Avoiding those items may quicken the process.
The precautions are being taken after Tuesday’s in-school shooting, in which a student shot at and injured a school resource officer before being arrested.
