Government refutes allegations that CPA rejected Constitutional Amendment

Sep 22, 2010 11:08:35 AM - itnnews.lk

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has refuted the statement made by Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath that the Constitutional Amendment was rejected by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). The 56th Conference of the Association was held in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Minister said that Vijitha Herath had made a statement to an English daily today that the meeting had rejected the Constitutional Amendment which also included the Presidential term limit. Minister Samarasinghe who was also a participant of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association meeting said that the statement is totally incorrect and baseless. He pointed out that he participated in all sessions as well as workshops. He emphatically stated that not a single person made reference to Sri Lanka during the meeting which lasted seven days.
