Kuwait has offered 1.7 billion rupees for the development of the South Eastern Oluvil University. Minister S.B. Dissanayaka has said it is expected to improve hostel facilities and carry out other development work with the funds.
The Minister said that after the 30 year conflict that it is now the universities are being developed. 22 thousand new students will be admitted to the universities increasing the burden on the hostels. This would disturb the academic environment. These facilities have to be expanded speedily. He extended the gratitude of the Government for leadership of Kuwait for offering help at such a moment. A delegation from Kuwait met the Minister to discuss the proposed development project at the Ooluvil University. Engineering Consultant Lan AL Ama, Legal Consultant Mustapha Kallal and Economic Consultant Hamal Hamza were included in the delegation.
Earlier Kuwait had donated 800 million rupees for the development of universities in the Island. The delegation inspected the development projects. The Minister said that they appreciated the activities being carried out.
