The world leaders have commended the President for eliminating terrorism.
The President of Turkey and the Prime Minister of Jamaica who met the President after his address to the conference on Millennium Development Goals expressed appreciation on the development process in Sri Lanka. During the bilateral discussions held with Turkish President Abdulla Gul, the two leaders focused on strengthening bilateral relations. They also discussed about the action taken on the agreements entered during the President’s visit to Turkey. Focus was also made on starting direct flights between the two countries. The Turkish President expressed his appreciation about the speedy development process taking place in Sri Lanka. Views were exchanged on receiving technological know-how from Turkey and seeking participation Turkish Companies in the construction sector. The President pointed out that the taxes imposed on tea imports in Turkey have created various problems for the tea exporters in Sri Lanka.
The Turkish President agreed to consider providing concessions in this connection. The President also held bilateral discussions with the Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding. They held detailed discussions on promoting tourism between the two countries and the action that should be taken by the middle income countries in achieving their development targets.
