It's not the longest dry spell in the Columbia area, but it is headed in that direction.
The State newspaper reported Thursday that the Columbia area has had no rainfall for 27 days. None is forecast before Saturday evening at the earliest.
The Columbia record is 40 days in the fall of 1961.
The Southeast Regional Climate Center says there have been stretches of no rain for more than 30 days four times since 2000.
Other parts of the state have had light rain a couple of times this month, but there hasn't been much anywhere in South Carolina.
