A West Columbia man is dead, and his estranged wife faces arrest on murder charges after a shooting Wednesday morning.
Lexington County detectives plan to arrest Shellie Lavette Davis, 37, of Algrave Way, Columbia, as soon as she is released from the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where she is being treated for a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators accuse Davis of shooting herself after killing Jermaine Denard Davis, 37, at an apartment on Feather Run Trail rented by his friend, Charlie Rice Jr., 34.
Police said Jermaine Davis had been living in the apartment for about five months. He and Shellie Davis had argued Wednesday, but the nature of the fight and the motive for the shooting remain under investigation.
Rice told deputies he found Jermaine Davis's body lying face up on his bedroom floor. He had entered the room because a cellphone was ringing but Davis was not answering. Davis had been shot in the back of the head with a .380-caliber handgun.
