Today is the World Heart Day. The Sri Lanka Hearts Association has offered to protect lives by raising awareness.
More than 17 million people die due to heart disease annually. The number exceeds 33 thousand in Sri Lanka. 109 persons die daily due to heart disease in Sri Lanka. Heart disease can be caused due to food that contain excessive carbohydrates and fatty foods, lack of exercise, uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure and psychological tension. Ninety percent of the heart patients can be cured. The Heart Association together with the Lanka Hospitals has organized a number of programmes to observe the day. The programme included a march, health clinics and consultancy services. The aim of the programmes was to minimize the incidence of heart disease.
