Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said that the religion becomes a strong foundation when building the Sri Lankan nation.
The Prime Minister said that the Government is attempting to forge a close relationship between the Buddhist people and the Maha Sangha. He said that the nation was preserved for 2500 years due to the blessings and strength of the Maha Sangha.
The Prime Minister expressed this view at the religious function held at the Sankhapala Rajamaha Vihare in Embilipitiya. The Chief Incumbent of the Temple, members of the Maha Sangha, Parliamentarians and Ministers participated in the occasion.
