South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is holding a meeting this week on college tuition costs.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported the meeting at Midlands Technical College in Columbia on Tuesday is expected to discuss the link between college construction and tuition.
Sanford spokesman Ben Fox says stopping new projects at public colleges and universities to hold down tuition could be discussed by the Budget and Control Board on Wednesday.
University of South Carolina spokeswoman Margaret Lamb says the school has lost nearly half of its funding from the Legislature in the past two years. Lamb says that's contributed to a nearly 7 percent tuition jump this year.
The Southern Regional Education Board says among Southern states, only West Virginia provides less funding to its colleges than South Carolina.
