Minister Basil Rajapaksa has pointed out that anyone has the freedom to move within the country. He said it is the onus of the nation to safeguard tourist attraction sites.
He told the gathering that anyone could travel freely in the country without fear and suspicion. He called on tourists who are visiting the Eastern coast from other areas to help in protecting the beach without polluting it.
The Minister was speaking after opening the Tourism Information Centre near the Thotamune Lagoon in Batticaloa and the Environmental Study Centre and Environment Park at the Batticaloa Lagoon. The opening took place on the sidelines of World Tourism Day. Eastern Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan emphasized that Sri Lanka will become “Asia’s Miracle” within a few years as desired by the President. Deputy Ministers Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan and M.L.A.M. Hisbulla and several political representatives were present. A boat and raft competition was also staged on the sidelines of this event.
