President Rajapaksa has invited the US business community to invest in Sri Lanka without fear. He said Sri Lanka’s economy is vibrant and the per capita income has doubled.
The meeting between the President and the American Business community was organized in New York. Nearly 100 business leaders in the Aerospace, Defence, the hospitality and Tourism industry and the beverage industry were present. The President told them that his intention was to increase the per capita income another two-fold in the year 2016. The nod of the US business community was given to a proposal by pharmaceutical industry giant Pfizer Inc that the forum has the potential to grow into a US – Sri Lanka Business Council to bring together Companies and the Government. These Companies claimed they expected to invest in the Sri Lankan market. Executive Director of the on Asian Department at the US Chamber of Commerce Esperanza Gomez Jelalian noted their support for Sri Lanka. He said they are firmly committed to a working relationship between the two countries. Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris pointed out that Sri Lanka’s economy was now very strong.
