Minister Gamini Lokuge has said that productivity is extremely important in the development process.
The Minister said that the construction of highways and the Hambantota harbour had been completed before the scheduled date.
Road development in the Northern Province, that was earlier expected to be completed in 2011 would now be draw to an end before that period.
He said that an increase of 2-3 percent in agricultural production is expected next year. He noted that a country which experienced war for 30 years should follow new techniques and increase productivity to achieve new targets.
The Minister expressed this view at a media briefing held regarding the National Productivity Awards presentation. 150 awards will be presented under the state, private, school and community categories.
Deputy Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya also participated in the discussion.
