Palmetto Health Baptist's operating overhaul

Not to say the old Palmetto Health Baptist operating rooms were outdated — after all they literally were home to cutting-edge work — but the upgrades during the hospital’s $57 million upgrade mark a major improvement.
For example, a variety of buttons and video cameras mean operating room personnel now can get additional help without anyone leaving the patient’s side.
“It beats the old-fashioned way of sticking your head out the door and screaming,” said A.J. Baird, who coordinates the operating room control desk.
The hospital celebrated the completion of its five-year improvement project last week. Many of the upgrades — in the neonatal intensive care unit, the maternity unit and registration and admissions areas — have been in use for months. The complicated work in the operating rooms capped the renovation effort this month.
