Minister Tissa Karaliyadde has emphasized that the Government’s intention is to open the doors for the children of the North and East to a new world. He said many programmes are being implemented to mark “International Children’s Day” which falls on Friday the first.
The Minister said that about 500 children selected from every part of the country including the North and East will take part in this function. It is the main event to be organized by their Ministry with the end of the war. The LTTE conscripted under-aged children. But now they are no more child soldiers. Based on a concept of the President, these children had been rehabilitated and are now living as children in their areas.
The Minister was speaking at a media briefing on “World Children’s Day” which will be held at the Swarnapali Balika Vidyalaya in Anuradhapura. Deputy Minister M.L.A.M. Hisbulla was present at the news conference.
