Arrangements are underway to revive the Sri Lankan Air Taxi service.
The service of aircraft that land on water was halted during the past. Discussions are currently underway with the manufacturing companies to purchase two aircraft that can carry 15 passengers each. A tourist can reach many areas in the country within 40 minutes by the Air taxi service. Sri Lankan Airlines pointed out that it would be very convenient for the foreign tourists. There are many reservoirs and rivers in the country on which the air craft can land. A high demand exists from the Sri Lankans as well for such an Air service. The service was suspended in 2007 due to security reasons. By that time 17,000 passengers had been transported in 3,000 flights.
