President Rajapaksa has ratified the recommendations made by the second Court Martial against Sarath Fonseka.
The second Court Martial proceedings were carried out against Sarath Fonseka on 4 counts related to procurement of military equipment, violating the army procedures. The second Court Martial found him guilty on all four charges. The decision was forwarded to the President to seek approval in his capacity as the Commander in chief of the armed forces. The President approved the decision under those powers.
Meanwhile analysts say that relief cannot be granted to Sarath Fonseka by any court and the only alternative is to seek a Presidential pardon.
