Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has referred to the Government’s readiness to utilize areas in the North and East for the cultivation of export crops.
The Minister made this reference in an address to the 3rd Conference on the Plantation Crops Research, which opened in Colombo. A major expansion in the Export Crops Sector should take place in parallel to the ongoing massive economic development following the total eradication of terrorism. In this respect, the Minister emphasized that modern technological strategies and research would play a significant role. A vast extent from the North and the East is being added to the re-development of the motherland. The Minister extended an invitation to scholars in the technical sphere to engage in research to steer these lands towards the development targets in a productive manner. Senior officials of the plantation industries sector were present.
