Nurses sick note campaign unsuccessful

The Health Ministry claims that the sick note campaign of the nurses is a flop.

The Health Ministry said that an inquiry made by the Nurses Administrative Division, had found that the services at any of the hospitals were not praralysed or obstructed due to this campaign. The inquiry was carried out at the behest of Health Services Director General Dr. Ajith Mendis. Treatment to patients was normal. Only one Union was involved in the Union action. It was not supported by the Public Service United Nurses Union which has a membership of more than 90 percent or other Unions. However, the Ministry pointed out that all arrangements are in place to enforce the Nurses Constitution to meet some of the demands of the Nursing Service. Minister Maithripala Sirisena and officials had already held talks with the Finance Ministry. As a result, the Treasury had agreed to fulfill the demands. The Health Secretary had already appraised all Trade Unions on this development. Under such circumstances, the Health Ministry is concerned that some were making attempts to sabotage the services,
