Environmental officials say untreated wastewater spilled into the Great Pee Dee River in Marlboro County.
The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control said Thursday that people and pets should stay out of the river from Tom Blue's Landing in Marlboro County to where state Highway 34 crosses the river at the Darlington County line.
DHEC says the wastewater spilled after a dike was breached at Mohawk Industries.
The company's plant near Bennettsville makes flooring.
