South Carolina's Charleston Air Force Base and Charleston Naval Weapons Station are becoming part of a joint command.
U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is on hand Friday as the Naval Weapons Station Charleston is decommissioned and then commissioned as part of Joint Base Charleston.
Following the ceremony is an open house at Marrington Plantation at the Naval Weapons Station. The event features food, entertainment and military demonstrations by both the Air Force and the Navy.
Joint Base Charleston results from the Base Realignment and Closure Commission program started five years ago to consolidate support services at military bases located near each other.
