The JVP today (1) said it did not accept the verdict of the court martial appointed and endorsed by the President and would therefore fight for former Army Commander and DNA Leader Sarath Fonseka’s release.
JVP Leader Somawansa Amerasinghe told a press conference that the prison sentence on Fonseka was a politically motivated decision.
Amerasinghe said the JVP would fight to safeguard the rights of the people and was even ready to go to jail for the purpose.
The JVP said it has planned a series of protests island wide against Fonseka’s imprisonment.
Meanwhile, JVP Propaganda Secretary and DNA General Secretary Vijitha Herath told the media that Fonseka would not ask for a pardon from the President.
Herath said that Fonseka had not done anything wrong to be pardoned.
