Sri Lanka has succeeded in achieving much benefits during the President’s visit to New York to participate in the UN General Assembly Sessions. The business community is optimistic that as a result of this visit, it would be possible to generate about 15,000 jobs next year.
Dr. Nalaka Goahewa, Chairman of the Tourist Board said that the President’s visit to the UN and his address there and also the subsequent meetings he had has become so important in this context. He was able to clear many doubts about the country during his speech and in the subsequent meetings. He was also able to explain very clearly the current state of the country, the economic policy and the Government’s policy which encourages foreign investors to come to the country, invite tourists to come to the country, and create a very positive image about the aftermath of the war situation. Therefore Mr. Godahewa said he believed at a time they were looking at the future very positively and considering economic development as their highest priority, the President’s visit to UN was of great importance.
