Today the 01st of October is Universal Children’s Day and World Elders Day. This report is being filed to mark the events.
20 percent of the six billion world population represents the elderly community. During their younger days they dedicated their lives for the betterment of the world. It would be surprising to note that in advanced countries such as the United States that more than 90 percent of the elderly population is living in Homes for the Aged. However, the elders in Sri Lanka are not that unfortunate. Remember the contribution our Elders have made in our Life, Society, Country and the world. Lets Stand together and honour the Senior Citizens, “We are proud of all our elders for being part of our lives”.
25 percent of the world population is being represented by children. Are you aware that of this 120 million had not stepped into school any day. Are you also aware that they are working in a farm, a quarry, a factory or behind palaces tiresomely shedding tears. While part of the child generation die as a result of hunger, torture and war others are serving as prostitutes or labourers. But such a fate will not befall our children who see the rays of peace after erasing the shadows of terrorism. Our children will hereafter not become child soldiers. They could be armed with knowledge on computer technology improving their literacy rate. Isn’t it the responsibility of everyone to ensure them a brighter and prosperous future and they will be the owners and creators of the country’s future.
